The spirit of 'Libre' lives in every person who fights for justice, expresses truth through art, and stands up for the vulnerable. From the farmworkers' fields to the journalist's desk, from the artist's studio to the folk singer's stage - freedom takes many forms.

Our photo wall honors extraordinary women of Mexican descent whose contributions have shaped arts, culture, journalism, social justice, and community service.

From visionary artists like Remedios Varo, Frida Kahlo, and María Izquierdo to influential musicians like Joan Baez, these women have left an indelible mark on global culture.

 

We also celebrate fearless journalists and social justice advocates including Dolores Huerta, Lydia Cacho, and Carmen Aristegui, alongside culinary innovator Chef Cristina Martinez and the compassionate Romero Vázquez Sisters, founders of the Los Patronas charity.
